Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, Living Gundam Legend, Guest of Honor in Brussels for Made in Asia!

The return of YAS to Europe after more than 17 years

Brussels – A historic event is about to unfold in Belgium and across Europe: Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, founding figure of the Mobile Suit Gundam aesthetic and a giant of Japanese animation, will be the guest of honor at the Made in Asia festival on October 18 and 19 at Brussels Expo.

A manga artist, visionary character designer, director, and animation supervisor of the very first Gundam series in 1979, Yoshikazu Yasuhiko—affectionately known as YAS—laid the visual and emotional foundations of one of the greatest sci-fi sagas in manga history. His expressive line work, dramatic sensibility, and mastery of direction have left an indelible mark on the Gundam universe.

He is also the author of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin, a masterful reinterpretation of the original series, now considered a cornerstone of the franchise.

A Rare Appearance in Europe
Yoshikazu Yasuhiko has only set foot in Europe once before, in 2008. His visit to Made in Asia therefore marks a rare and exclusive event for festival-goers! A unique opportunity to meet the 2025 guest of honor—an authentic legend of Japanese pop culture—in an intimate and special setting.

A Rich Body of Work: Sci-Fi, Historical Epics, and Human Tragedies
Beyond Gundam, Yoshikazu Yasuhiko has created several major works in contemporary manga, such as Venus Wars and Arion, brilliantly blending grand history with personal stories. He also directed ambitious animated films, including Crusher Joe, Arion, and more recently Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island, praised for its elegant direction and deeply human portrayal of conflict and its consequences.

Exclusive Pre-Release of Volume 6 of Gundam: The Origin
Gundam fans will get the exclusive chance to discover Volume 6 of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin in its French edition, available two weeks ahead of its official international release. This eagerly awaited volume, published by VEGA, will be sold exclusively at the VEGA booth. Each manga purchase grants access to Yoshikazu Yasuhiko’s daily signing sessions, with a bonus limited-edition art print included (while supplies last).

An Exceptional Talk with Yoshikazu Yasuhiko
On Saturday, October 18, Yoshikazu Yasuhiko will give a special talk where he will discuss his career, inspirations, and the legacy of Gundam. Full details of this event will be announced soon.
